Jet d'Eau (Water Fountain) 0.1 km

The famous Water Fountain is today known affectionately as the Eiffel Tower of Geneva. The impressive 140 metres high fountain dominates Geneva harbor and is symbolic of the city's modern image. The Jet is Europe's tallest fountain and is illuminated at night, but it is by day that it is most spectacular forming deep rainbows in the sky whenever the sun shines.

Jardin Anglais (English Garden) and Horloge Fleurie (Flower Clock) 0.5 km

The English Garden, established in 1854, is home to the Monument National, symbolizing Geneva's attachment to the Swiss Confederation. An elegant bronze fountain and L'Horloge Fleurie (Flower Clock) decorated with over 6000 plants was installed in 1955 to honor Geneva's watch-making industry. The clock is the largest in the world, five metres in diameter and 17.7meters in circumference.

Cathédrale de St Pierre (St Peter's Cathedral) 0.9 km

Cour St-Pierre. Built between 1160 and 1289, the Romanesque cathedral has more than a hint of Gothic and neo-classical styles contained within its walls. Here is the place where John Calvin preached between1536 and 1564 affording an historical significance that belies the church's diminutive size. Beneath Cathedral de St Pierre is one of Europe's largest underground archaeological sites with some good 14th-century mosaics.

Jardin Botanique (Botanical Gardens) 1.9 km

Geneva's world-renowned Botanical Gardens were created by A P de Candolle in 1817 and were originally part of the the Parc des Bastions. They were moved to their current site in 1901. 28 hectares of gardens and greenhouses are home to tropical plants from six continents. A pond, flower gardens, a garden of the senses, an aviary and a park of rare animals join to make a most pleasurable and informative day out. Botanists can indulge further in the research laboratory, herbarium collection and extensive library.
